This project is for those buried in Philippi Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Raeford, Hoke County, North Carolina.
"From history notes of C.B. Johnson, Sr. we find that Mr. Patrick Pulaski DeKalls Johnson and Mary Monroe Johnson were leaders in the founding of Philippi Presbyterian Church. According to the wish of Allen McCaskill, uncle of C.B. Johnson, four acres of land were given to white people and two acres adjoining to colored people for a church and cemetery. Allen McCaskill (1800 - 1860) was the donor of the land on which the churches and cemetery are located. His will requested that from his estate a site should be laid out, including the McCaskill graveyard, both for public burying ground and for the erection of a Presbyterian Church. P.P.D. Johnson beneficiary and executor of the will laid off six acres of land for this purpose. The church did not materialize until some twenty-eight years later. No definite steps were taken to build a church until 1886."
