Profiles

This project is for those buried in Pleasant Street Cemetery, Claremont, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.

Pleasant Street Cemetery came into existence in the mid-1840s. There are stones and markers with death dates from the late 1830s and very early 1840s. Some may be cenotaphs, or the deceased could have been reinterred from the "Old Burying Ground", also known as Broad Street Cemetery.

There are a great number of prominent Claremont citizens buried in Pleasant Street Cemetery. Many Claremont citizens responded to the call to arms during the Civil War, and the cemetery has many monuments and cenotaphs honoring those that served, including many who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A small number of burials have taken place since the beginning of the 21st century, many in family plots that span several generations.

Pleasant Street Cemetery is bordered by West Pleasant Street and Mulberry Street, which is the main entrance point. Sections, A - H, are marked with signs. The City of Claremont Public Works Department is very helpful in answering inquiries about the cemetery and the listings of deceased.
