Often referred to as the "Fifth Fleet" many ships arrived in Australia between 1947 and 1966. Less in the later years. The "refugees" from war torn Europe were part of the true building of our Nation and character.
With them they brought a "work ethic" that built our Nation to the strength and prosperity that it enjoys today. This was a time of "Nation Building" and a time when any man could become prosperous in our country if he could work hard and smart. We began to enjoy cuisine we had not ever dreamed of, with restaurants offering genuine ethnic menus and to us, exotic fruits and vegetables.
Australia became a country of rich and diverse culture.
This project will list all the vessels that arrived during this period, we may add projects and profiles to those projects.
One page will be used as, with modern transport, people did not remain in their first "port of call". Tracing people in these modern times is best done with their vital records, but we need to get them here, and this is what we shall do here.
