Hebrew reading users are familiar with the phenomenon of profiles with Hebrew names written in reversed direction.

This is a briliant workaround from the time when the "Reverse RTL Names" option did not exist for tree view, or made by creative and hardworking users not familiar with the option.

Entering data this way, even as a "Display Name", beside being tedious, error prone and needless job, is a problem to the match algorithm, and messes the tree once it meets a tree written in the right (may I say left?) direction.

This way of data entering is combined many times with other errors:

  • 1. Placing all data in the first name field
  • 2. Replacing between first name and surname
  • 3. Adding Z"L / ז"ל / זצ"ל to name, sometimes instead using the "deceased" indicator

Many of these trees are abandoned, waiting to be added to the WFT.

This project is intended to list common Hebrew names, that when searched reversed produce lot of profiles that may be fixed.

Note that beside the direct result, the "immediate family" column shows nearby cases, and displaying the tree gives many more.

It takes time, but with collaborative work it can by quickly converge.

When I fix such area, I send a message to the manager explaining the process and presenting the "Reverse RTL Names" option. I never got a reply...

Common Hebrew names, reversed:

  • םהרבא
  • קחצי
  • בקעי
  • השמ
  • ןורהא
  • הרש
  • הקבר
  • לחר
  • האל
