Profiles

This project is for those who are buried in School Land Hollow Cemetery, New Boston, Scioto County, Ohio.

Milldale Cemetery, as it is known today, is accessed by climbing a steep embankment on Milldale Road in Scioto County, Ohio. The cemetery, in a wooded area and heavily overgrown, is not visible from the road. According to a 1982 inventory provided by the Scioto County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, the cemetery covers about 1.2 acres with "graves scattered over a wide area, most of them on either side of a path that runs up a hill." The first burial was in 1906, according to information published by the Ohio Genealogical Society. Milldale Cemetery was inventoried by Virgil and Marguerite Ramsey on 20 Sep 1982. They found 44 fieldstones and 14 markers with inscriptions. Wayne Campbell, Brenda Campbell and Richard Underwood did an inventory in 1997. That inventory and a map of the cemetery showing 113 stones, mostly fieldstones, is available at the Portsmouth (Ohio) Public Library.

The cemetery is listed under the City of Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, and is # 10973 (Milldale Cemetery) in “Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003”, compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
