There are three separate cemeteries in different locations in Benona Township in Oceana County, but they all carry the same name of Benona Township Cemetery and are differentiated by their geographical name location. This cemetery is Benona Township Cemetery South. It is located on the South side of Johnson Road and across the road from St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Many of the stones are inscribed in German. Lyman McLouth Sr helped plot the lots for this cemetery. The second burial in this cemetery is Adeline McLouth 1823-1859 daughter of Lyman McLouth Sr.
The cemetery is also known as Gardner Cemetery.
