The purpose of this project is to find a common ancestor of Chaikins from Nyejn and Chernigov and to determine the source of Chaikins who are not.
Chaikin, Haykin, Hayken, and their variants, while not terribly common, still are borne by many many seemingly unrelated people. However to date I have found that many, if not all, can be traced back to the town of Nyejn. Nyejn is now in the north west of the Ukraine and is in the Chernigov province, or Chernihivs'ka oblast.

-----------------------------
For the purpose of this project, and to determine the source of Chaikins, I would like to find living Chaikin men who would be willing to take a Y-DNA test to help determine
- A) Whether they are related to other Chaikins,
- B)How closely they are related to other Chaikins and
- C) A "family tree" of Chaikins based on when the lines split.
Currently, Family Tree DNA has 37-marker Y-DNA tests for $169.
Tests for 67 markers are $268 and 111 markers are $359.
You can upgrade, meaning that if you buy the 37-marker test you can later choose to upgrade to the 67-marker test without paying the full $268.
If you do get the test done, please post in the discussions tab your findings!
