Profiles

This cemetery is near Gettysburg and New Oxford. Until 1803, the “Pines” Presbyterian Church stood in the eastern end of the cemetery. It was log and was built by early Irish settlers. Then it was removed to give place to the union log church building. This was the Union Lutheran and Reformed Church. In 1861, here was built the “Pines” or St. Paul’s Episcopal Lutheran Church. This church still stands there and is an unusually beautiful church. The church and grounds are very well cared for. A very old stone school stands near the church. The cemetery is back of the church and two other cemeteries are nearby. The inscriptions in this old cemetery were copied July, 1970. Due to the age of the cemetery many of the stones are illegible, some are missing and some are small, brown stones with no names or dates. A fine old stone fence with wrought iron gates surrounds the cemetery.

The cemetery is also known as St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
