Veterans Cemetery, Macclenny, Baker County, Florida, USA:
On rural property, which has belonged to the Johns family for generations, this old inactive cemetery is located in a gated cow pasture under the shade of a grove of Water Oaks. Several years ago, four flat grave markers were placed on the graves of Confederate soldiers by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. These four graves are the only ones now marked. A member of the Johns family stated that were many other graves in the cemetery. This includes an area where African Americans were buried. There is no cemetery book with the listing of those interred. Land records dated 1855 show that a designated acre of land was labeled "Johns Burial Ground," but locals do refer to it as "Veterans Cemetery." Although the cemetery is located on private land, visitors are welcomed to pay respect to those buried there.
