The Wauseon Union Cemetery is located at the western edge of the city, south of State Route 2 and west of Lawrence Avenue. Wauseon was plotted in 1854 and in 1862, on the death of Nathaniel Leggett, an early village proprietor, a search was made to select a suitable cemetery site. The location decided on was, now the old section of the cemetery where the grave marker for Nathaniel Leggett is found, was purchased from E.L. Barber. The newly formed Wauseon Cemetery Association purchased additional land from Alanson and Hannah Pike in 1866. The following year the association passed the nine and one-half acre cemetery to the joint control of the village of Wauseon and Clinton Township.
