Conewango, Cattaraugus, New York is an Amish hamlet formed from a part of the township of Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York. Though "English" (outsiders to the Amish) live in Conewango, it is mostly known for it's Amish citizenry.
Conewango Valley-the oldest settlement [and one of the largest] in New York. Founded by “Troyer Amish” in 1949; roughly 2,500 Amish live here today.
Conewango is a Native phrase, roughly translated, meaning "slow walking". It references the Conewango Creek which is a lazy, meandering creek.
