
On 3 September 1939 Prime Minister Robert MENZIES announced the beginning on Australia’s involvement in the Second World War. Almost a million Australians enlisted. 39000 gave their lives and over 30000 Australian servicemen were taken prisoner with 36% of the 21000 prisoners of the Japanese dying in captivity. LINKS
