There was past historical drama about the life of Shawnee Chief Blue Jacket being falsely portrayed as a white man named "Marmaduke Van Swearingen", who had been adopted by the Shawnees. Due to the blue hunting jacket he often wore, he was given the native Shawnee name of "Wey-yah-pih-ehr-sehn-weh," or Blue Jacket.
Blue Jacket had numerous children and was able to pass down his name (Blue Jacket as a surname for both his offspring and his wives). Blue Jacket 's name continues to live on today, as its been passed down to generations of his descendants who proudly bear his name with honor, respect, recognition and remembrancer.
