Some Karpel families may descend from Pelikar,one of the leaders of Guanche people at their defensive and liberational movement against Spanish invaders about th late 1490's according to the latters' aera . Defeated nobility has been in big number transferred froim the Islands,just as fromthe Americas , into the Spain,where they must have acted as hostages and serves of the unscrupulous conquerers . Some of them though might have later escaped and got to Eastern Europe ,and so might have done some people from Pelicar's family to nam them with a Gothic name derived from the original one of their ancestor : Kar-Pel - dropping 'i' out that perhaps served in some language just as an element of minor significance .
Araucanian chief's name Paillacaru ,who was Lautaro's brother or nephew according to reports , may also be related to Pelicar personal name .
