Old Brač nobility recorded in 1603 as Nizeteo, variants Niseteo, Nisiteo, Nisetich, later in 1611, recorded as Nižetić. Surname is derived from original inhabitant  "Nikšu Petrulli iz Dubravice"  of the ancient and long abandoned settlement Dubravica in south eastern Brač, recorded in 1390 and again in 1403.
