Red Buttons

On February 5, 1919, comedian and actor Red Buttons was born in New York City, New York. The fiery-haired comedian was born Aaron Chwatt to Jewish immigrants Sophie and Michael Chwatt. Did you know Red acquired is famous moniker at the age of 16, while working as a bellhop at Ryan’s Tavern? The combination of his red hair and the large, shiny buttons of his uniform inspired orchestra leader Charles “Dirty” Moore to call him “Red Buttons.”

Do you remember watching his many memorable appearances on film and television?

Red Buttons is connected to 75 million people in Geni’s World Family Tree. How are you related?
