About Rabbi Naftali Hirsch Herz Günzburg

Quote from the second edition (1990) of "Unbroken Chain" by Neil Rosenstein, see the very beginning of the Section D of Chapter III, on page 216 (volume 1):

ABD (Chief Rabbi) Posen, where he wrote an approbation in 1647 to Emek HaMelech. He later became ABD Pinsk and then Slutzk when he signed the Minutes of the Council which convened at Zulz in 1670 and at Chamsk in 1679. He wrote approbations on Divrei Chahamim and Keneh Chochmah by R. Judah Lieb of Pinsk, published in Hamburg 1692/3 Frankfurt-on-Oder 1681/2 respectively. He died Tammuz 1697, and was buried next to R. Nahum Katzenellenbogen.

In the third edition of the book, see the same section of the same chapter, Volume 1, page 467 the year of death changed by 10 years, to 1687. Otherwise the paragraph quoted above looks identical.

The year of death in the profile was corrected to reflect information from to the latest edition.

Other sources more or less randomly show either 1687 or 1697 as the year of death. Most likely reasons: most of the sources are secondary, so they copy the information, directly or indirectly, either from on of editions of the above book, or from whatever sources Neil Rosenstein used.

Av Bet Din à Posen (1647) puis Pinsk et Slutsk

The Unbroken Chain - Neil Rosenstein - 1990 - he had two wives:

1. Rebecca (see page 14, G5.3)

2. Rebecca's first cousin Deborah (see page 12, G5.7)

Note: Deborah was also married to R. Jacob, ABD of Brest and Lublin, son of Ephraim Naftali Hirsch, ABD of Ludmir.
