Alfred Augustus Wood

Alfred Augustus Wood was born in Lewisham, Kent in 1845 but in the 1891 census he was living with his wife & two children Kenneth Brook Wood & Geoffrey Wood at 1 Peveril place, Peveril Village, Swanage, Dorset. His wife was Clara Wood (Brook) . In the April 1911 census, which was held at St Peter's in Thanet, Kent England Alfred & his family were living in Broadstairs & he was 65 years of age,& Clara was 47 years old. Her mother Ann Brook (1832) was born in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire. The only child present was Doris Bresh Wood, a mistake for Brook? She had been born in 1893 in Bray Becks , Berkshire & was not married as she was only 18. There is no sign of any brothers, perhaps they had emigrated to Australia sometime in the previous century.

Doris Brook Wood was the person who did a great deal of research on the ground, visiting graves & reading records in English & Latin & transcribed dates of birth & death, sharing her findings with her cousins Ina Mary Wood & Brenda Souter all contributing to the family tree of this branch of the Wood family, which Cousin Brenda Souter passed down to the Friend family in South Africa. I believe Alfred Augustus Wood was originally buried near St Paul's Deptford on Wood ground, bought by Henry Wood, but was then moved & commemorated among the Henry Wood Family in the Brockley Cemeteries in Greater London.
