On Christmas Eve 1914, shortly after the outbreak of World War I, Christie and Agatha were married at Emmanuel Church, Clifton, Bristol, close to the home of his parents.[10] Christie was progressively promoted during the war until he became colonel. He was mentioned in dispatches five times; and, at the end of the war, he received a DSO and a CMG.
