About Benjamin Franklin “B. F.” Melton
Benjamin's date and place of death were found on the "Arkansas Death Index, 1914-1950." In some records, both Benjamin and his brother Anderson are listed as having been born in 1857. It appears that Anderson was born AFTER Benjamin, according to the following census records for the family of Benjamin Clark Melton -- 1860 Indiana - B.F. 3 & A.R. 1 -- 1870 Illinois - B.F. 13 & A.R. 11 -- 1880 Missouri - B.F. 23 & A.R. 21.

B. F. MELTON, 76, DIES AT HOME OF SON HERE
B. F. Melton died Tuesday at six o'clock at the home of his son, L. S. Melton. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Louis Waldron of Texarkana. He was buried in Ashdown Cemetery. Mr. Melton was ill only a few days. He had lived in this county about five years, having moved here from Paris, Texas. He was the father of six sons and one daughter: J. B. Melton and Nolan Melton of Paris, Texas; Harlan Melton of Durant, Okla.; C. W. Melton of Ralls, Tex.; B. F. [??] Melton, Ray Melton, and Shirley Melton of Ashdown. All of the children were here for the funeral except C. W. Melton, who was unable to come. The deceased was seventy-six years old and had lived a Christian life for many years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

By 1910, both Benjamin and Maggie were widowed. On the April 1910 census, children of Benjamin were Clarence, Benjamin, and Luther. On that same census, living with Benjamin were 4 children who were listed as Benjamin's nephews (Robert, Rufus, Alva, Nolan) and one as his niece (Leona). Maggie Melton was listed as his sister-in-law.
