  • Charles County Court Records, March 1737/8 Court, Liber T#2, Page 422. Benjamin Musgrave exhibits to this Court the following certificate of the view of the lands and plantation belonging to John Phillpott, a minor now under his Guardianship: Whereas John Phillpot, son of Edward Phillpot, decd, did apply himself to the Justices of CC Court to choose his guardian, and was admitted, sd John Phillpot did then and there make choice of Benjamin Musgrave for his Guardian, and we, being appointed by Robt: Yates, a CC Justice, have viewed the land, houses, and orchards and fencing belonging to sd orphan on sd plantation as follows - We find on sd Plantation 1 dwelling house, 22X16 feet, 1 milk house, 8 feet square, 1 house, 20X16 feet, 1 tobacco house, 32X16, the sd houses being all in good repair. We also find on sd Plantation, 50 good apple trees and 600 panels of good fencing, sd Guardian having liberty to clear about 14,000 plants of tobacco ground between the Main Road and a Branch that leads up to John Phillpot's fence, and that he likewise have liberty to get what rail, timber, or clapboard that is necessary for the repairing sd fencing & housing on sd Plantation. And we also find that the annual value of the sd Plantation to be worth 700 lbs of tobacco per year. Signed Dec 6, 1737 - Barton Smoot, John Winter. Certified by Robt. Yates.
