Comments
Per Dorman, Beheathland Bernard had only two Dade children, Francis and Mary. Her second husband, Andrew Gilson apparently had children when they married, one of whom married William Lane. I don’t find an Anne Dade.
Dorman says “the daughter Mrs. Buckner, named in Andrew Gilson’s will, and the wife of “my wel beloved sonn in law Mr. Wm, Lane” to whom Beheathland Gilson gave a power of attorney, 14 Nov 1667 (Old Rappahannock County Deeds, &c 3, 1663-1668, p. 312) appear to be his children by a previous marriage.” Dorman, Vol. 1, p.221
Biography
From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bernard-170
Born to Capt. Thomas Bernard and Mary Beheathland. She married Francis Dade in 1652. They had a number of children, including Francis and a daughter Mary, wife of Capt Robert Massey and Col. Rice Hooe.[1] Nicklin gives a list of five that adds Ann, William, and Elizabeth.[2]
She next married Maj. Andrew Gilson. They had two known children. She left a will proved 3 Mar 1720/21.
Behethland had a large number of descendants from her seven known children. The occurrence of the given name Behethland among colonial Virginia families is largely from her example and quite frequent among the daughters of her descendants. She lived to quite an advanced age for the times and seems to have been a fairly prominent figure in early Virginia society.
Notes
Major John Smith and Behethland, his wife, "of Potomack,"
made a power of attorney to Major Edward Griffith, of Mulberry
Island, in the county of Warwick. Then, on December 29, 1663, Edward Griffith and Elizabeth, his wife, of Mulberry Island in James River, assign to Francis Dade, son of Major Francis Dade, deceased, all their right in a patent of land in Westmoreland Co., and in case of his death they gave their interest to his brothers and sisters, and in case of their decease, the land was devised to Mrs. Behethland Dade, relict of said Major Francis Dade.
