Promoted to Capt 12/26/1862. Wounded in legs by gunshot 5/3/1863 in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.; hospitalized in General Hospital #11, Richmond, VA; granted 7/22/1863 30-day furlough. Mortally Wounded In Action 5/12/1864 in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA.
The 49th Infantry Regiment was organized in November, 1861, with men from Wilkinson, Talfair, Washington, Irwin, Laurens, Pierce, and Pulaski counties.
