Robert and Nancy had eight children, before her death in 1794. Robert married second to Elizabeth Anderson. Was she the second wife of William, Robert's brother? Robert and Elizabeth had one daughter.
During the Revolutionary War, Robert served under Capt. John VanMeter in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania's 4th Battalion. His service was from 1778 to 1783. He was listed in the (1994) DAR Patriot Index, part III, p 2519, as a private.
In about 1794 he moved his family to Kentucky, floating down the Ohio River. The family moved across the Ohio River in 1796, to Warren Co, Ohio. This location was near his cousins David Enoch in Butler County, William Enoch in Clark County, and brother William Ross in Clark County.
The Franklin Quasi-Sesquicentenial 1796-1960 record this about Robert. On August 13, 1798, John Kobler, a Methodist preacher, recorded in his journal "... rode into a little village called Franklin," where kindly entertainment was provided by Captain Ross. Kobler preached at the Ross cabin. It was on the southwest end of Franklin, near the Miami River.
In about 1803, Westmoreland County land ownership was causing some legal problems. Robert returned to settle the affairs, became suddenly ill, and died there. His will was written September 24, 1803, and was probated in Warren Co, Ohio, on December 1, 1803.
When his father's will was probated on 11 September 1759, he was to receive of Fairfax Survey #55
