March 18, 1837--Hezekiah Scovil gives to his son, Daniel Scovil, an advancement of $500 against Daniel's share of Hezekiah's probate estate.

Dec. 29, 1837--Daniel Scovil is residing in Alabama.

1844--Daniel Scovil is co-founder with his brother, Hezekiah Scovil, Jr., of the D. & H. Scovil Company, Higganum, Connecticut.

May 6, 1850 (Higganum, Connecticut)--From the D & H Scovil Company issues the following letter: "Messrs. Blunt & Syms, Gentlemen, Herewith please find a Bill of Pistol Barrels this day forwarded to you [in New York City] in seven crates from Middletown by steamboat. Yours Respectfully, D & H Scovil." [Blunt & Syms were the makers of the Pepperbox Pistol. Whether Pepperbox barrels were what was shipped on the 6th is unknown (2020)].

Jan. 7, 1854--The D & H Scovil Company is turning away orders for hoes: "Messrs. Thomas and Franklin, Gentlemen. We are sorry to be under the necessity of saying that we cannot supply you with hoes. We have more orders before yours than we can supply during this selling season. Yours respecfully, D. & H. Scovil."

Aug. 29, 1860--Daniel Scovil pens in a D & H Scovil Company memorandum: "Pond about two thirds full of water. Worked about four hours . Worked at the lower about the same time."

Aug. 31, 1860--Daniel Scovil pens in a D & H Scovil Company memorandum: "Brother [Hezekiah Scovil, Jr.] and myself went to the shop. Water too low to run at the upper shop. Running at the lower shop."

Aug. 1, 1860--Daniel Scovil pens in a D & H Scovil Company memorandum: "Went to the shop myself. Ran about four hours at the upper shop. About the same time at the lower shop. Left the shop about 1/2 past eleven O clock."

Sept. 16, 1860--Daniel Scovil pens in a D & H Scovil Company memorandum: "Worked at both shops about 5 hours before I came away. Left them running at the lower shop."

Sept. 23, 1860--"Run at the upper shop about 3 1/2 hours. Run at the lower shop about the same time while I was there. Found them running when I arrived there in the morning, the usual time for going to work."
