... His father, David, whose name was written Heckenwaelder, was one of the Moravian exiles who came to Herrnhut, the refuge village founded by Count Zinzendorf on his estate Bevthelsdorf, Saxony. ... This was the religious background of David Heckewelder, John's father who was sent as a missionary to England where his son was born. The son must indeed have absorbed much of the missionary spirit. John Heckewelder was eleven years old when he landed with his par- ents at New York. He walked withBishop David Nitschman to Beth- lehem, a then 15 year old mission, while others waited for wagons. Barring a brief interim in the Danish West Indies with his missionary parents, who died there, he grew up in the vicinity of what is presently Nazareth and Bethlehem. ...

- https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/GQWL-C5R “ While there is no absolute certainty, it is inferred that Judith Kunz could be the first wife of Georg Heckewelder and the mother of David Heckewelder. Research set out in Chronik der Marktgemeinde Zauchtel a.d. Oder principally authored by Claus Mannsbart (2005) opines that Georg Heckewelder, son of Mathaeus Heckenwaelder, is the person who married Juditha Kunz, daughter of Michael Kunz on 14 April 1709. Juditha died in 1713 and this Georg married Anna Gebauer, daughter of Johann Gebauer on 14 January 1714.
