David Sinclair

LIEUTENANT COLONEL DAVID SINCLAIR OF FINNEKUMLA

David Sinclair, second son of Seba by Barbe Halcro, also established himself in Sweden, where he was naturalised and admitted to the House of Nobles under the number 626, in the year 1655. He was Colonel of a Regiment of Cavalry, and married Katherine, daughter of John Maclean, Seigneur de Gasvadholm and Hagby. This David Sinclair was slain at the battle of Warsaw, in Poland, in 1656, leaving: (1) William Sinclair, his heir (2) Anne de Sinclair, married to Colonel the Baron de Kruse. Lieutenant Colonel David Sinclair is the son of William Sinclair of Saba. His uncle James, Lord Eythin, in his last will and testament dated 10 April 1651, left him two thousand four hundred Reixdollars: "which I am adebted to him by Vertue of obligations I have given him, but also to have and resave money or satisfaction in lands and otherwayes for the soume of twa thousand fyve hundreth Reixdollars, the which I lent to his father and my brother William Sinckler of Seaby as a token of my love for him." Death

Lieutenant Colonel David Sinclair was killed in action on 19 July 1656, during the seige of Warsaw. Th. A. Fischer said this of him: "David Sinclair, who came to Sweden in 1651, was Colonel of a cavalry-regiment, and shot by a cannon-ball in sight of the King at the Battle of Warsaw in 1656." David Sinclair, naturaliserad Sinclair, till Finnekumla i Finnekumla socken, Älvsborgs län.

Kom 1631 till Sverige (jämte sin äldre broder John, som blev major vid Hepburns gröna brigad 1631 och överstelöjtnant 1632 samt stupade under trettioåriga kriget). Var överstelöjtnant 1650. Överste för ett värvat rytteriregemente 1655 på våren.

Naturaliserad svensk adelsman 1655-06-01 (introducerad 1655 under n:o 626).

Sårad av en kanonkula i slaget vid Warschau 1656-07-18 i spetsen för en skvadron av regementet och död 1656-07-19.

"Han köpte för de penningar, som hans fader förmått skicka honom och sedan allt hopp för honom var ute att kunna få återkomma till Skottland, säteriet Finnekumla, vilket dock sedermera reducerades från sonen, fick vid naturalisationen som svensk adelsman behålla sitt urgamla vapen med tillägg av en vit, fembladig ros mitt i korset till betecknande av att han tillhörde kungl. partiet i Skottland, som bar vita kokarder. medan däremot Cromwells hade röda."

Gift 1651-12-14 i Kristine församling i Göteborg med Catharina Makeléer i hennes 1:a gifte (gift 2:o 1661 med generalmajoren och landshövdingen Malkolm Hamilton, friherre Hamilton al Hageby, född 1635, död 1698), född 1637, död 1709 och begraven 1709-08-08 i Göteborg, men först 1717-02-23 nedsatt i familjegraven i Kristine kyrka i Göteborg, dotter av kommissarien Johan (eller Hans) Maclean, adlad Makeléer, och hans 1:a fru Anna Gubbertz.
