About Enoch Hall

Enoch Hall:

Enoch was a R.S. in North Carolina. He was an early settler of Telfair County, moving there before 1800 while it was yet Montgomery County. He moved to Georgia from Robeson County, N.C., where he struggled for independence. No record is found there of his service; however, his widow, Nancy Hall, drew land in the Georgia land lottery in 1827 as the widow of a Revolutionary Soldier, which is accepted proof of his service. She drew Land lot No. 388, 7th district of Lee County, and possibly other lots. She was at the time a resident of Telfair County. He first appears on the 1798 tax-digest of Montgomery County. In 1799 he granted 1700 acres of land in that county; also 164 acres in 1802 and 200 acres in 1807, this being "head-right lands." He appears to have lived in Tattnall County about 1803-1806 and was probably cut off Montgomery into Tattnall when it was created. He became a resident of Telfair County upon its creation, and he served on the first Grand Jury in that county, April Term, 1810. He also served as a juror at other terms in 1811 and 1812. No record has been found in Telfair of his death or administration of his estate; but descendants say he died about 1815 near the present town of Glennville, Tattnall County. The widow in 1820 census of Telfair appears as head of family. Record is found in Telfair County of a deed dated July 10, 1812, from Enoch Hall joined by his wife, Nancy, to Jacob Clements, conveying land Lot 355 7th District of old Wilkinson but then Telfair County.
