A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA (Soldier). DAR Ancestor #: A064845

Francis Kenner moved to Tennessee and became the owner of a large body of land. He moved onto a house at Watauga where there had been small pox, (he) contracted the disease and died from it. Many of his negroes died, and his wife lost her eyesight.

His children were Howson, Francis, Rodham, Winder, Rosamond, Nancy, and the twins Peggy and Eskridge." (From "The Kenner Family", by Laura Davis Worley; who reported that much of her information came from Elizabeth (Kenner) Savage 1791-1889.)

(2b) 1762, Dec: Francis KENNER had lived for several years on land in Prince William Co., VA, leased from George MASON. (2b) By 1770: Was in NC. (2c) Emigrated to Carter Co., TN during the Revolution. (2) Carter Co. was erected from Washington Co. in 1796. What was Washington Co., NC, is now Washington Co., TN. (2b) 1778, Oct: He was in the Watauga Settlement when he first entered land in what is now Hawkins Co., TN. (2a) Removed to the Watauga area (in TN) with his son Rodham, both of them having served in the American Revolution. (2b) 1779: He was taxed in Washington Co., NC, for four negroes, five horses, and three cattle, but no land. (2b) 1783, 12 Jun: Specie Certificates were issued from NC to Francis KENNER for arrears of pay and were applied to the purchase of land 8 Mar 1784. (2b) 1784, 30 Mar: 500 acres of land on the Holston River (about one mile from Rogersville, TN), were surveyed for Francis KENNER. The grant issued 10 Nov 1784 is in his name, but all his other entries were granted in the name of Howson KENNER, his heir. (2b) Francis KENNER moved into a house at Watauga where there had been small pox. He contracted the disease and died from it. Many of his negroes died, and his wife lost her eyesight. (2b) The family of Francis KENNER moved to his land on the Holston River after death.
