Rebecca is a disputed daughter of Benjamin Gill, who died intestate. Court records state that Robert Cole was Gill's "cozin". Richardson (2013), only shows one child for Benjamin and Mary (Mainwaring) Gill: Anne Maria, who married Captain James Neale.[1]
The same record which names Cole as Gill's cousin, identifies Cpt. James Neal as Gill's son-in-law.[3]
Marriage
Rebecca married twice. In 1645, she married her first husband Francis "John" Knott (d. abt. 1651). She remarried to planter Robert Cole in 1651. He is the person who demanded the adminstration of Benjamin Gill's estate.
With her first husband, Rebecca had two children.
Rebecca and Robert Cole had the following children:

- Robert Cole 1651-1694
- Mary 1654-1683
- William 1655-1688
