To quote Stanley in his 1920 autobiography: "........my father, tiring of the (English) country life, went to Paris. We had a house at Neuilly and then an "appartement" in the Rue du Chemin de Versailles, at the top of the Champs Elysees, for, I think, two years - 1860-62.

April 1861 they were back in England for the UK Census: 1861 (7th April) UK Census Registration district: Newton Abbot, Sub-registration district: Teignmouth, 22 Brunswick Place, Dawlish, Devon, UK:

1862 Moved to Cosham, near Portsmouth, Hampshire (again Stanley states: " a house with beautiful grounds which I remember with pleasure").

1871 (2nd April) English Census: transcription lists 'W' instead of 'De' for Felix and omits De for the rest of the family in error.

1881 (3rd April) England Census Frank is a boarder with a Dr and Mrs Gerard Smith (Surgeon and his wife) living at "The Acacias, Clapton Road, Hackney, London. His occupation is listed as a Clerk on the Stock Exchange.

Another 1881 England Census has Frank A. De Brath, Clerk Stock Jobber, aged 20, as a visitor with the Rhodes family in Earlswood, Civil Parish of Lambeth, London.

Also another 1881 English Census lists Frank with his family in Hove, a district of Brighton: Address: 1 Russell Crescent, Hove, Sussex Civil parish: Brighton

1890 Brother Stanley's memoirs state that Frank (aged 29) was in South Africa in 1890 [Source: John Murray 'Pat' McSwiney, "A Family History, Vol.I, Part 5, page 10].

1894 Mr. F. De Brath, aged 31, merchant, citizen of England, resident of London, arrived in New York (where he was in transit) from Liverpool, England, on the ss Teutonic, with '6 pieces of luggage'

1896 Frank De Brath, age 29, Gent from England, embarked New York arrived Liverpool on ss Lucania

1902.05.31 Peace of Vereeniging signed, ending Anglo-Boer War. The general discharge of prisoners of war in South Africa began in June 1902. Boer prisoners of war in Bermuda numbered about 4300. Many overseas prisoners of war, especially those in India, were sceptical about the peace conditions and refused to take the oath of allegiance to the British Crown. In spite of the efforts of Gen. De la Rey and Comdt. I. W. Ferreira to induce them to return, about 500 of the 900 ‘irreconcilables’ were not to be persuaded until Jan 1904.

In July 1904 the last 4 Transvaalers were discharged from India, but in May 1907 two Free Staters were still there. There were 100 men per district to every shipload, and on their arrival they were first sent to camps at Umbilo and Simonstown, where they were given food and clothing. Those who were self-supporting were allowed to go home.

The following was an advertisement placed in the Saturday 11 August 1917 Edition of the Sydney Morning Herald:

Frank's gravestone: FRANK DE BRATH LOVING MEMORIES

• 5/18/1932 Frank de Brath 72 yrs [Source: eGGSA Library: 1334 N European, European Male - (Plot) F Hold] Stellawood Cemetery and Crematorium, Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.

This municipal cemetery is the largest in Durban. It is situated at the top of Stellawood Road which intersects Umbilo Road. The majority of the graves are in the main military plot (Plot F) which has a Cross of Sacrifice in the First World War section and a Stone of Remembrance below the Second World War terraces. ]
