Richard Montgomery GANO was b. 7 Jul 1775 in NYC, the son of Rev.John Allen GANO (chaplain in the Continental Army, participant in the siege of Quebec, and founder-member of the Society of the Cincinnati). Richard moved with his parents to Frankfort, KY in 1788 and m. Jan 1797 Elizabeth EWING at Frankfort; he d. there 22 Oct 1815, having been Col. of Scott's Regiment at the Battle of the Thames, War of 1812 (promoted for gallantry at the close of the war).
Of his 7 children, 6 lived to maturity (and produced a passel of grandchildren); most of his kids & grandkids became military officers, ministers, or physicians (or married persons of that station).
Most of his immediate descendants lived in Scott & Bourbon Cos., and several lines moved to Texas -- including his grandson, also named Richard Montgomery GANO, who became a Maj. Gen. in the Civi War, was a Baptist preacher of considerable prominence after the War, and is buried in Dallas.
