Former Resident of Shamokin Dies

George Leroy Hepler, 59, a native of Shamokin and World War I veteran, died this morning at 6:00 in his home at 123 Pine Street, Sunbury, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Hepler had been in failing health for months and was seriously ill since May. Death was due to a complication.

Born in Shamokin, Mr. Hepler was the son of the late William and Emma (Heim) Hepler. He lived in Shamokin until 1927, when he moved to Sunbury. His first wife, the former Hattie Krohn, Sunbury, died in 1951.

Mr. Hepler was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sunbury; Northumberland American Legion Post and a life member of Americus Hose Company and Sunbury Moose Lodge.

Surviving are the widow, the former Carrie Harp; one step-son, Robert Krieger, Sunbury; five step-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ethel Horsewood, Girardville; one brother, William Hepler, Philadelphia, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 (EST) in Dornsife Funeral Home, Sunbury. Rev. Jeff Wolfe, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Sunbury, will officiate. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow evening, from 7:00 until 9:00. Northumberland American Legion Post will have charge of military rites.
