Baptism NGK, Potchefstroom - see LDS film no. 0253, 1842-1987, p. 97; no. 0248, 1863-1903. Nederduitse Hervormde Archives copy is legible and mother's surname is defnitely Visser.

Baptismal record gives 18 Jul 1875 as birth date, with previous children's baptism date being 7 May 1875 and his as 9 May 1875. Probably minister wrote wrong birth year (birth should probably be 18 Jul 1874 as baptismal date is 9 May 1875!)

Witnesses:- Wm [Willem] J [Janse] van Rensburg; Jac [Jaco/Jacob/Jacoba] Fred [Frederik/Frederika] Barnard; An [Anna] Cath [Catharina] Barnard; Jac [Jaco/Jacob] Nico [Nicolaas] van Rensburg.

Lived on the farm Koedoesdraai, Klerksdorp and on Droogekraal, Wolmaransstad; but died on the farm Vrede, Bothaville, Klerksdorp district.

Anglo-Boer war 1899-1902 - at 25 years captured at Paardeberg on 27 Feb 1900 and sent to St Helena (probably Deadwood Camp) - no. 768 ID no. 494. Address given as Droogekraal, Wolmaransstad.

War Compensation - Applied at age of 29 years old, affidavit dated 7 Sep 1902. Forms completed on 21 Oct 1903 (TAB CJC 295, 1903) of stock, a wagon and furniture looted by British troops in the amount of 496 pounds. Re-assessed to 431 pounds. Left his property with his father on the farm Koedoesdraai, Wolmaransstad district. Gert was captured at Paardeberg on 27 Feb 1900 and his horse, which he used on commando, was also taken for which he claimed compensation. This was rejected. POW to St Helena and returned to Transvaal on 18 Sep 1902.

Death notice MHG 24629 dated 7 Nov 1932. Age shown as 58 years and 2 months.

Most of the children's date of birth on death notice

I found a baptismal record in LDS, PE, for a Gert Petrus Barnard born 18 Jul 1875 (should probably have been 1874), but baptized 9 May 1875 NHK Potchefstroom. Parents were Marthinus Christoffel Barnard and Hesther Petronella Visser https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89Z5-R9XP?i=1041&wc=QZ...

Register appears to record her middle name wrongly. (See Discussion: https://www.geni.com/discussions/186669?msg=1246889)
