About Hyman Kaminsky
Was his name actually Chaim?
Someone wrote on Family Search that his nickname was Cheikel.
His daughter's birth certificate says Kominsky and that he was born around 1878
His first few children were born in Brooklyn
Possibly his death certificate: born 1887, died 1907
According to Anna Popkin's book From Russia to America, he died around 1904. But that can't be, because his daughter Florence was born in 1906 or 1907. (p.167)
Morris, his son, had a pen with the engraving "H.K." and "1904".. (p.169) But Cemetery said he died in 1908.
Considering his son, Morris, tried to have a "stone" put on his grave to make it "recognizable", even though it never ended up happening (p.170), I assume Hyman was buried in NYC, because Morris was living in NYC at the time, and his "family in Philadelphia" (probably Trenton) wanted to travel up to see the grave.
A distant member of the Kaminsky family was buried "just a block away" from Hyman's grave (p.170). So that means there's other Kaminskys in town.
Anna Popkin writes she was told his grave was unrecognizable, completely grown over, but that Hyman's family was able to find it because the manager knew which plot. Maybe I can find it as well?
Herman Kaminsky's music school classified 1902 in NYC
Buried at Washington Cemetery: Cemetery 3, Post 275, Row 1, Grave 10.
I believe Washington Cemetery told me he died in 1908, but the death record index says 1907.
