Krivo Ozero, Balta, Podolsk, Russia (Russian Federation)
There is some doubt about the date of birth of Jacob Zbarsky.
Jacob's 1929 Naturalization file is clear on his town of origin, and lists the same town as the birthplace of his wife Eva Hopkins. According to the JewishGen.org Town Finder, the name before WWI was Krivoye Ozero, Balta, Podolia, in the Russian Empire. Between the wars, it had the same name, in the district of Odessa, in Ukraine SSR, in the Soviet Union. Today, it is known as Kryve Ozero, Ukraine, and there are (as of January 2015) 39 people researching 66 names from that town, but none researching family names like Zbarsky or Hopkins. There are, however, many people researching names like Zbarsky on JewishGen.org, some in Ukraine. |

New York, New York County, New York, United States
According to Jacob Zbarsky's 1929 naturalization, which included Eva and Louis, Louis was born in New York, August 20, 1918. This is consistent with Jacob and Eva's travel to the United States on July 23, 1918 (with no reference to Louis). |
