Bååt Family, by Swedish Biographical Dictionary

Bååt, old Swedish savior family, which originated from Småland. The coat of arms, a boat, gave rise to the family name, which, however, was only adopted by the members at the beginning of the 17th century, a couple of years before the extinction of the family. The family tree cannot with complete certainty be traced further back than to the one at Flishult in Näsby parish, Njudung, where the squire Jon Petersson lived, who is named in the documents in the years 1390-1418, but then his mother Kristina Hemmingsdotter before her latest marriage in 1351 with the squire Jöns Brudsson (lion face) had evidently been married to a knight - she therefore bears the title of wife - and as her just-mentioned son was born in this previous marriage, it is very close to assume that her first husband and Jon Petersson's father was identical to the one from king Magnus Eriksson's time, the knight Peter Jonsson knew, who also brought the boat and was possessed in Småland. The latter should therefore be regarded as the progenitor of the Bååtätten. Obviously closely related to the Bond family (compare the articlePeasant, family overview) — he himself sometimes called himself Peter Bonde (in his younger years he sometimes also bears another surname: Haak) — this Mr. Peter Jonsson is mentioned as a councilor from 1322 and won the knighthood at the coronation of King Magnus in 1336. His political activities were mainly based in Finland, where he mostly stayed during the 1320s and 1330s. As early as 1320, he was sent there to acquire the castle county of Viborg for the new Swedish government, which until then had been exempted from its authority, in that Viborg was still apparently managed on behalf of the deposed king Birger by a bailiff who was fond of him. After he had successfully completed the assignment thus entrusted to him the following year, he was appointed the Swedish crown's chieftain at Viborg, an office, which he then came to hold for a couple of decades (probably as late as 1336 and possibly until 1339). During his time in Finland, he participated as one of the Swedish negotiators in concluding the peace concluded in Nöteborg in 1323 with Russia. He was still alive in 1342 but probably died not long after that. A (probably older) brother of his was the knight and councilor Sune Jonsson, lawman in Tiohärad, d. in the late 1330s. He also took a lively part in the political life of his time and took part in a. active at the acquisition of Skåne in 1332. Sune Jonsson's son, the titular earl of the Orkney Islands A (probably older) brother of his was the knight and councilor Sune Jonsson, lawman in Tiohärad, d. in the late 1330s. He also took a lively part in the political life of his time and took part in a. active at the acquisition of Skåne in 1332. Sune Jonsson's son, the titular earl of the Orkney Islands A (probably older) brother of his was the knight and councilor Sune Jonsson, lawman in Tiohärad, d. in the late 1330s. He also took a lively part in the political life of his time and took part in a. active at the acquisition of Skåne in 1332. Sune Jonsson's son, the titular earl of the Orkney IslandsErengisle Sunesson(see below 1) was one of the kingdom's most influential magnates during the latter part of Magnus Eriksson's reign and in the time of King Albrekt. Older genealogists' information that Bishop Karl (båt) of Linköping (d. 1338) and the knight Erengisle Jonsson, who is mentioned in the documents of the 1320s and 1330s, were the brothers of Peter and Sune Jonssöner, is certainly incorrect; whether or in what way they were favored with Peter Jonsson's family is uncertain. — The aforementioned Jon Petersson to Flishult never played any prominent political role. His sons, Nils Jonsson and Peter Jonsson, like their father, both lived in Njudung and died in the 1440s. The former's family branch survived for a while into the 16th century but descended into the provincial (Småland) low-salvage class; a great-grandson's son of his was probably the infamous mayor of Jönköping Nils Arvidsson from the 1529 rebellion. Peter Jonsson again became the father of the knight Erland Petersson, who died in the 1480s, who through his marriage acquired the Fituna manor on Södertörn, which subsequently remained in the family's possession. This Mr. Erland's sons, Henrik Erlandsson (d. in the late 1520s) and Peder Erlandsson (d. 1540), both achieved the dignity of councilor. The former, who signed up for Fyllingarum in Östergötland, entered the Riksdag in 1512 and, at the last election in Strängnäs in 1523, became a lawman in Östergötland. As a member of parliament, he testified in the Västerås Parliament in 1527. His family branch died out in the 1620s with his grandson Göran Ulfsson, who, like a previously deceased brother Jöns Ulfsson (d. 1600), had adopted the family name Snakenborg. A sister to these, Helena Ulfsdotter (b. 1549, d. 1635), became lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth of England and married in England 1) in 1565 to William Parr, Marquess of Northampton (d. 1571) and 2) to Sir Thomas Gorges of Longford (d .1610); in the correspondence of the time, she sometimes appears as the "Swedish Countess" in England. The aforementioned Peder Erlandsson became a councilor and lawman for Öland in the 1523 parliamentary election, but in 1529 — probably because he was considered to have been compromised in some way in connection with the rebellion that broke out in the aforementioned year — had to give up the council office. His older son Björn Pedersson (d. 1570) seems to have been in possession of Gustav Vasa's trust, which among other things a. showed in that, that in 1540 he was appointed a chamber councilor, in which capacity he served until 1545. In 1547 he entered the Riksråd. In his marriage to Östgöta lawman Nils Bosson's (Grip) daughter Brita Nilsdotter, with whom he obtained the estate Fållnäs on Södertörn, he had the sons Gustav Björnsson (d. 1594), councilor 1590, Erland Björnsson (d. 1628), councilor 1609, governor of Salberg County and Court of Appeal Council in Svea Court of Appeal, and Jakob Björnsson, governor of Kalmar Castle in 1586 and father of the admiral and acting president of Svea Court of Appeal Jakob Jakobsson Snakenborg (d. 1627), best known for his participation in the Kalmar War. He became captain of the fleet in 1606 and served in 1609-10 as permanent vice admiral of the fleet, whose Kalmar Squadron he commanded. Confined in Kalmar in 1611, he managed to escape to the Swedish camp and contributed through his advice to Charles IX giving up his original idea of immediately attacking the Danes. In Jan. In 1612 he was appointed colonel of all the fighting people in Småland and thus in this capacity came to bear the heaviest burden during the Danes' advance during the planned concentric attack against Jönköping in the summer of 1612. He participated under great difficulties in organizing the defense against Gert Rantzau but in the end let of June 1612 surprised at Högsby, where he was captured. After the peace, he transferred to the Svea Court of Appeal and, as chairman of the nobility at the 1625 Riksdag, served as the first county marshal. Grandsons of Gustav Björnsson, the National Treasurer He took part under great difficulties in organizing the defense against Gert Rantzau, but at the end of June 1612 he was surprised at Högsby, where he was captured. Grandsons of Gustav Björnsson, the National TreasurerSeved B. (see below 2), and the major general and governor of Riga Nils B. (b. 1617, d. 1659), received 29 Jan. 1650 baronial dignity, but the thus founded baronial family B. was extinguished on the side of the sword in 1698 with the son of the national treasurer, v. the governor of Stockholm and Uppsala county Carl Gabriel B. (b. 1650, d. 1698). In 1625, the family B. was introduced as a noble with the governor Peder Erlandsson B. (b. 1589, f. 1654), who was the grandson of the above-mentioned Björn Pedersson's younger brother, Riksrådet Johan Pedersson (d. 1574).
