John Amonette, a Frenchman by birth, was born in Amelia County, VA and assisted the colonists in their struggle against the mother country throughout the Revolutionary War. He lived some years in East Tennessee but in 1811 moved to Madison County, AL, being among its first settlers and there spent the rest of his days, a tiller of the soil. John was a Revolutionary War soldier and received a pension from Madison County, Alabama. He applied for his pension in 1832 for his service as a private in Captain Franklin?s Company, 10th Virginia regiment.

A prominent family by the name of Cummings had 800 acres of land up close to Nashville, AR and his wife had an Amonett connection. A Col. J. R. H. Cummings married Sophenia E. Donaldson in 1845 in Madison County, AL. Mr Cummings was born in Limestone County, AL in 1817. Miss Donaldson was born in Madison County, AL in 1822. His parents were natives of Halifax County, VA. Mrs Cummings maternal grandfather was John Amonette. He married Bethsheba Rodgers from a prominent family in TN. The Colonel and Sophenia moved to Hempstead County, AR in 1854.

This information came from the ?Southwestern Arkansas? Volume of the ?History of Arkansas? by Goodspeed. I was directed to this information through the Genealogy Society at the Hope Library.

Over the Internet in one of the message boards they say that Levi Donaldson was married to Charlotte Amonette who was the daughter of John Amonette so I don?t know if the book is correct or the Internet. I don?t know YET how we may fit in with these Amonettes.
