On 20 November 1693, she married John Tompkins. He was the son of her stepfather, who had died in 1681, and was a widower, his first wife having died in 1688. Mary was then forty years old. The long delay before marriage was probably due to the youthful indiscretions described below.

Most recent (2016) research by Alicia Crane Williams: John Tompkins 1609-1681 in: Early New England Families, indicates the LNAB of his wife Margaret remains unknown.

Recent research (see below) indicates that this John Tomkins was not from Edlesborough and his wife Margaret was not Margaret Goodman. Most genealogies will, however, include those two items, referring to the same person in Massachussets, but leaving out the contemporary John Tomkins who remained in Edlesborough, England. Anderson (2012, p 71) reports:

"Some secondary sources, as well as Torrey's Marriage Index, state that John Tompkins, son of this immigrant, married at Edlesborough, Bucks, on 27 August 1632 Margaret Goodman [Farr Anc 282]. This marriage is found in the Edlesborough register, and John Tompkins, son of Ralph, did have wife Margaret. However, there was a Tompkins family long established in Edlesborough, including a John Tompkins who married [blank] Hopkins in late 1609, who could have been father of the John who married there in 1632. (Edlesborough is about ten miles northeast of Wendover, and must be carefully distinguished from Ellesborough, which is immediately adjacent to Wendover on the southwest.)

Also this John Tompkins was a different person than the John Tompkins of Concord who settled in Eastchester. The two are confused in traditional genealogies because of a speculation by James Savage (A genealogical dictionary of the first settlers of New England).
