Joshua Payne

Enoch Payne who died there in 1794 left orphans, Enoch, Jr. and Charles and Sarah, that were bound to Joshua Payne, w. Susannah, who was the administrator of Enoch’s estate, so they were all probably related. A Charles Payne is said to have died in 1803 in Rowan, but I do not know if it is this Charles. Although this Payne group are claimed to be descendants of Isaac Payne and Sarah Daulton, I have seen no evidence, paper or DNA, to connect them with that family or to Maryland. There are Payne Genealogy books that list all the Payne’s in Rowan, NC in late 1700’s as children of Isaac and Sarah Payne {and also later disclaimed it, but , I assume, most people did not read the disclaimer.}. With DNA we now know that most of them were not related. The only children of Isaac and Sarah that I know of that were in Rowan, NC are Isaac Payne, Jr. and John Payne mentioned above.
