Louis Carr "Andy" Anderson Jr. passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Corsicana on Sunday morning, Sept. 16, 2012, at the age of 87. Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington. Interment: 1 p.m. Thursday in Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 1200 S. Collins, Arlington, Texas 76010. Louis was born in Dallas on Jan. 11, 1925, to Louis Carr and Lois Neal Anderson. He grew up on a farm near Calvert. After graduating from Calvert High School in 1942, he attended Texas A&M University for a year prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He commenced pilot training at the Naval Air Station in Grand Prairie and received further instruction at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cornell University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, where he received his commission as a naval pilot and his cherished "wings of gold." He was sent to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for advanced training in torpedo bombers and then assigned to a dive bomber squadron aboard the aircraft carrier Princeton. He traveled to Hawaii, the Philippines, Saipan and Tokyo, Nagasaki and Yokohama, Japan, prior to his discharge in 1946. He returned to Calvert and married the love of his life, Esther Marie Henry, on Aug. 16, 1947. After living briefly in Hearne, the couple moved to Bryan, where Louis re-enrolled at Texas A&M. While in college, twin sons James and John were born. After graduating with a business degree in June 1950, he went to work on the 1,400-acre family farm. Daughter Kathryn was born later that year in Bryan. After being recalled into the Navy, Louis was stationed in St. Louis and began flying the single-engine F8F Bearcat fighter plane. He then taught navigation in Pensacola, Fla., Olathe, Kan., and Adak, Alaska, in the Aleutian Islands. Son Robert "Bob" was born in 1953 in Bryan. After joining the Navy Reserve, Louis returned to Hearne and worked for the Texas Pipeline Co. until moving to Arlington and accepting a position with Chance Vought Aircraft in 1956. He obtained a top-secret security clearance and spent most of his career in "black ops" programs prior to his retirement in 1988. While working at Chance Vought, he remained in the Navy Reserve, flew F9F Panther jets and retired as a lieutenant commander. Lovingly known as "Poppa," Louis was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was totally devoted to his family. In addition to his active involvement in all his children's activities, Louis enjoyed playing bridge, fishing and watching sports, especially his beloved Texas Aggies, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, not only during his Navy career, but also his post-retirement trips to Australia and New Zealand, throughout Asia and Europe, and across the United States and Canada. Louis had been a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church since 1971. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Autury Davis for her extraordinary devotion to Louis' well-being during the past three years, and for the love and support shown by his wonderful Hunter Glade neighbors and the incomparable "Dover Lane Gang." He was preceded in death by his adoring wife of 63 years, Esther Henry Anderson, and his brother, Douglas Neal Anderson. Survivors: Son, James Anderson and wife, Donna, of McKinney; son, John Anderson and wife, Gay, of McKinney; daughter, Kathryn Brown and husband, Michael, of Carrollton; son, Robert "Bob" Anderson and wife, Reva, of Spring; grandchildren, Heather Evans and husband, Wes, Kelli Anderson, Chad Brown and wife, Lauren, Robert Anderson, Brett Anderson and wife, Reba, Stephanie Anderson, Brooke Anderson, David Zastro and wife, Kim, Laura Rowan and husband, Patrick, and Elizabeth Casteel and husband, Mark; great-grandchildren, Carter, Haden, Kynlee, Eli and Layla; and sisters-in-law, Mary Henry of College Station and Mary Ann Henry of Garland.
