Christopher Newport, Admiral of Virginia, had four confirmed children - Christopher, Jane, John and Elizabeth - none of whom came to Virginia. A fifth child, Mary or Molly, is still debated hotly as to her parentage. This fifth child, Molly Newport, married Thomas Bragg.

A sixth child, Marian Newport, also has not been proven. She DID exist, as proven by records of her marriage to William Hatch, but there is no proof that she was the daughter of Christopher Newport. She would have been two years old at her father's death, and would have been the product of his third marriage, to Elizabeth Glaufield.

View the relationship as suspect until such time as more proof can be found.

William Hatch married Marion Newport, on 27 Dec 1632 in Ogburn St. George, Wiltshire, England. Marion was born in 1615 in England and died in 1646 in Varina Parish, Henrico County Virginia, at age 31.

There is said to be a marriage record for her marriage to a William Hatcher. However, there is no evidence (other than the date of marriage) linking her to William "the Immigrant" of Henrico Co., VA. Further, if his wife and a child had arrived with William in 1635, he could have claimed an additional 100 acres for importing wife and child. He did not. Also, no wife relinquished her dowry for William's early land grants. However, there is no marriage record for William in Virginia.
