Not the same as Mary Churchill and did not marry Eleazer Churchill

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Doty-54

Mary Doty was born in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony, about 1653, the daughter of Edward and Faith (Clarke) Doty.[1]

She married Samuel Hatch shortly after her mother's estate was settled on 10 July 1677. She was called Mary Doten in the court order of that date.[2] Samuel Hatch then signed a receipt for John Rouse on 28 February 1679 for the amount due him by virtue of his wife's share of the estate.[3] John Rouse was the husband of Mary's sister Elizabeth, and was administrator on Faith's estate. Mary was the only remaining unmarried daughter, so it follows that Mary was the wife of Samuel Hatch, even though she was not named.[1]

Mary's brother Joseph Doty of Rochester on 7 June 1700 conveyed to John White the 40 acre sea-lot he purchased from "Samuel Hatch my brother."[4]

Samuel was born on 22 December 1653 in Scituate, Plymouth Colony, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Holbrook) Hatch,[5] and died probably not long before his will was proved on 07 July 1735.[6]

On 12 July 1720, her sons Elisha and Ezekiel Hatch of Rochester, yeomen, sold to John White 2/3 of a lot and 29 acres in Rochester, formerly owned by their father Samuel Hatch and shared by them with the heirs of their brother Josiah Hatch, deceased.[7]

Mary died before 13 June 1728 as she was not named in her husband Samuel Hatch's will of that date.[8] No probate records are found for Mary in Plymouth County.[1]

Samuel's will was dated 13 June 1728 and proved 07 July 1735. He named his sons Samuel and Isaac Hatch; grandchildren Isaac and Josiah, sons of Isaac; daughters Hannah Tincom, Elizabeth Bonney and Desier Hatch; grandchildren Ebenezer and Sarah, the children of son Ebenezer Hatch, deceased; grandchildren Edmond, Jabez, Josiah, Desier, Zurviah and Mary, children of his son Josiah Hatch, deceased; sons Elisha and Ezekiel Hatch.[8]

Children born Scituate (only father Samuel is named):[5]

  1. Samuel, b. 10 Nov 1678
  2. Josiah, b. 30 May 1680
  3. Hannah, b. 15 Feb 1681/2
  4. Ebenezer, b. 06 Apr 1684
  5. Isaac, b. 20 Dec 1687
  6. Elizabeth, b. 16 Jun 1690
  7. Elisha, b. 07 Nov 1692
  8. Ezekiel, b. 14 May 1695
  9. Desire, b. 25 Sep 1698

[MD 5:113] It has been shown that Faith Phillips had a daughter Mary2 Doty (Edward1); that Samuel Hatch of Scituate had a wife Mary in 1679; and that, in 1680, he receipted for his wife's share of Faith Phillips' estate. It is therefore evident that Samuel Hatch married Mary2 Doty between 12/22 July, 1677, and 28 February /12 March, 1679/80..

SusanHenry77 Mary Doty; Mary Hatch?: I find the argument laid out by Theodore Lazell in the Mayflower Descendant [5:111-113] and quoted, in part, in the story above, compelling. The maiden name of Faith Phillips, Edward's wife and Mary's mother, was Clarke. She married John Phillips as her second husband. Her will written in 1775 does not name her daughter Mary as Mary Hatch, since the Mary's marriage to Samuel Hatch must have taken place after Faith Phillip's death.

Disputed Marriage

https://archive.org/details/churchillfamilyi01chur/page/6/mode/2up Claims:

ELIEZER - CHURCHILL (John '). Born in Plymouth, April 20, 1652. Admitted freeman at Plymouth, 1683. He lived at Hobshole, upon a part of the original estate of his father, having come into possession of the first house built by him. Eliezer Churchill married 1st, Mary -; 2d, Feb. 8, 1688, Mary. Doty, [NO] daughter of Edward and Faith (C'larke) Doty. She died Dec. 11, 1715, aged 60 years.

Doty family does not accept that Mary as the daughter of Edward and Faith Doty. Eleazer did mary a Mary - they do not accept Mary Doty as Edward and Faith's daughter because the marriage certificate information does not have her birth date on it even though it had Eleazer's So until the question of who Mary actually is, this remains in question and unanswered.
