About Matthew Hawkins

Matthew Hawkins first married Ann Parish. She was born about 1674, the daughter of Edward Parrish. Matthew died in 1705. His will was probated 24 April, 1705, in Baltimore, Md., Court House, Book 1, page 138. He left the government of his children to his two brothers, Joseph and Thomas Hawkins.

Bequests in his will were made to sons, Matthew and Augustus (Augustine), tract called "Hawkins Hills," 130 acres. When 21 years of age each is to receive his share. To his daughters, Mary, Dinah, Ann and Rebecca, tract called "Best Success," 160 acres.
NOTE: This land was sold to Launcelot Todd of Baltimore County, Md.: deed being signed by these daughters and their husbands, ... 23 Sept 1723.

His lands were called "Best Success," and "Greater Success."

SIX CHILDREN of Matthew Hawkins by his first and second wives (it is not known to which group each belongs). Matthew Hawkins married second, to Mary Parrish, sister of Ann, his first wife.

Dinah Hawkins was John Cole's second wife. She was the daughter of Matthew Hawkins. Dinah and John Cole had three sons named in records of land transactions as brothers: Charles, Joseph and Matthew.

John Cole with wife Dinah, Thomas Nowland and wife, Thomas Broad and wife Anna, and Rebecca Hawkins, conveyed to Lancelot Todd land of the late Matthew Hawkins. John Cole's Will 12 Nov 1745 - 5 Nov 1745, named wife Dinah and children, Charles, Joseph and Matthew.
