About Nathan Blevins

Not the same as Nathan Charles Blevins

Disputed origins

There is no evidence that Nathan is a son of James Blevins & Elizabeth Ward (they bore their children in Virginia).

From WikiTree Comment:

As reflected in the Research Notes on Nathan's profile, it is disputed whether or not Nathan is actually a son of this James Blevins. There is no clear source supporting this relationship. An affidavit from his Revolutionary War pension file does claim he was born on the Haw River in the Colony of North Carolina, and moved to Grayson County as a young child. There is no evidence that this James ever lived in North Carolina

1776 Project. Private Nathan Blevins served with Washington County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Nathan Blevins b. 1763. Nathan appears on the 1777 Montgomery Co., Va, militia list.

Nathan was born on Haw River in NC. He participated in the American Revolution. Nathan’s Revolutionary War pension application indicates that his father moved to Montgomery County, (now Grayson) County, VA when he was a small boy; and he was living in Montgomery Co, VA, when he served in the militia and when he was mustered into service in the War for Independence. Nathan was marched first to Whitton's Fort at the head of Clinch River (Russell County, Va) for six months. His pension application states that he lived on the Clinch River after the war for five years (Russell Co with the Charles Skaggs family); then moved to Green County, KY.

He married Rachel Skaggs, daughter of Charlie and had three sons, Rachel died, and he married Lydia Vaughn Pepper 1803 Green Co Ky. The boys by Rachel Skaggs stayed in Greene Co, and Charles was a defendant in a Skaggs lawsuit over Moses Skaggs land.

Nathan and Lydia moved back to Ashe Co NC along with her son Reuben Pepper, father James Pepper deceased. He was living when he filed his pension application in 1832. Green Co., Kentucky land deeds show that he settled on 100 acres on Pitman Creek from abt. 1785 to 1800. In Nathan’s pension application, he mentions having "moved to Green Co., Kentucky for fifteen years, and then to Ashe Co., NC, where he has lived ever since."

Nathan died April 8, 1834, and is buried at Baptist Chapel Cemetery, Helton Creek, NC.

There has never been any documentation that can be duplicated or is in any government source that connects him to the name William. Only older biographies were written before gov't records were widely available and are theoretical connect him as using this name.
