Born of German parentage in Rotterdam, Holland and married Catherine [?] there in 1747. Immigrated with his wife & daughter, Elizabeth, to the American Colonies on the ship Patience, whose captain was Hugh Steel. The original spelling of their surname was Haut but on the ship's manifest it was misspelled as Hant. Upon reaching America they changed the surname spelling to the English version of Haught still used by the family today in West Virginia. They landed at Philadelphia, PA 9/15/1751, traveled to Richmond, Virginia and settled on the southbranch of the Potomac River, near Mooresville. By 1755 they had moved north near the Quaker Colony of Penn's Land to be near the land homesteaded by their son-in-law, Richard Tennant II. Both Peter and two of his son's homesteaded land on Dunkard's Creek in West Virginia before either Blacksville or Morgantown were ever laid out in lots. Descendants of Peter Haught qualify for membership in Daughters & Sons of American Colonists.

Peter Haught sailed on the ship Patience for America and arrived in Philadelphia on Sept. 9, 1751, He settled in Moorfield, in what is now Hardy County, West Virginia.

Served in Dunmore's War 1774 from District of West Augusta, VA

Peter Haught II
Peter Haught II. was a private in Captain James Parsons’ Com¬ pany, of Lord Dunmore's army, in 1774, along with his two uncles, Henry Haught and Tobias Haught, and his brother-in-law, Richard Tennant. This army marched through the northern part of Virginia, with the intention of joining with General Andrew Lewis and his army that had moved westward through the central part of Virginia. Gen¬ eral Lewis and his army met and defeated the Indians at Point Pleasant before the northern army could reach them.
Peter Haught II. also served as Indian Spy under Captain Michael Catt, in General McIntosh’s Campaign, during the Revolutionary War. He also served under Captains John Minor and James Daugherty in the Virginia troops. He was allowed a pension for his military service; and in 1855 bounty land of 160 acres was given to his minor children, Frances and John Haught.
Peter Haught II made improvements on lands on the headwaters of Statler’a Run, in 1776, and was granted a certificate for 400 acres.

He married Christenia Yeager in 1777, and settled on His grant of land, near the settlement of his brother-in-law, Richard Tennant.
