About Randolph "Bud" McCoy, Jr.
"Bud" was the youngest child of Randolph McCoy Sr. and his wife Sarah McCoy. He was killed along with his brothers Pharmer and Tolbert McCoy, in retaliation for the murder of Ellison Hatfield. Ellison was the younger brother of Hatfield patriarch, William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield, a prosperous timberman of West Virginia. The execution-style killings occurred along the banks of the Tug River by a vigilante party including Johnse Hatfield, Selkirk McCoy, Jim Vance & others. Just before the shooting of the McCoy brothers, William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield said to them, "Boys, if you have any peace to make with your Maker, you had better make it." He then ordered them to be shot. Their father found their bodies in a horrendous condition in a grove of paw paw bushes on the banks of the Tug River in Pike Co., KY. The top of Bud's head was shot off, and he was down on his knees hanging on to the bushes.
The profile picture was found on E-bay, and said to be a picture of the 3 McCoy brothers (Pharmer, Tolbert & Randolph, Jr.) after they were killed by the Hatfields on August 9, 1882. IT HAS NOT BEEN AUTHENTICATED! The bodies of the 3 were brought by sled to their father's home. Read the horrible story on "Bud"s brother Tolbert's profile.
