There is currently NO EVIDENCE that Gerrit Jerephaesz van Wijk was a descendant of King Edward II or the son of Margriet van Hattem or the father of Adriaen Gerritsz van Wijk (who was Roelof Adriaansz van Wijk's father). MyHeritage user family trees do NOT count as sources unless they cite actual sources, as the current info in the MyHeritage user trees are more than likely all copied from a single ficticious source. • Roelof Adriansz van Wijk and his wife Trijntje Jans first appear in 1686 in the Cape Town baptismal registers when he and his wife were witnesses at the baptism of the son of Willem van Wijk. Their fist appearance in the muster and opgaaf rolls was in 1688. In the opgaaf rolls of that year they are listed as having one son.

• Roelof Adriansz van WIJK was the son of Adrian and his son Adrian was named after his grandfather.

Roelof van Wijk en Trijntje Jans	 		 There are Muster rolls for 1700, 1701, 1702, 1703 and 1704 and Opgaaf returns for 1700 and 1702 but this couple apparently no longer appears	

Both the Muster rolls and the Opgaaf returns exist only for some years. Some years of the Muster rolls list wife and children, others do not.

The Muster Rolls (monsterollen) were lists of the inhabitants at the Cape of Good Hope, drawn up separately for Company officials and Free persons, and dispatched to the Netherlands, where copies are preserved in the Ryksarchief, S'Gravenhage.

What has been consulted here are the so called 'Verbatim Copies' kept in the Cape Archives, which are copies of those in the Ryksarchief.

The Opgaaf (Tax) returns were lists of Free persons at the Cape with their belongings and their yearly produce, crops and animals, upon which their tax contribution was based.
