Thomas Southworth married Rosamond Lister. Weis gives a marriage date of 1563/1571.

Sir Thomas Southworth, Knight, died on 30 Nov 1616 in Grays Inn, London, Middlesex, England at age 68.

Rosamond Lister, wife of Sir Thomas Southworth, daughter of William Lister, , was born in 1555/ 1567 in [Gisbrn] Thornton, Yorkshire, England, and died in 1592 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, at age 25. She died about 1617 according to the book "Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists..."

Sir Thomas Southworth was the first in the family to become a Protestant in 1585. When he inherited his father's estate it was heavily loaded with debts, legal costs and fines placed upon it by Elizabeth I, Queen of England. Thomas and Rosamond lived in London, 1584-1594.

Records from Township of Southworth with Croft: 1605:

Thomas Southworth, Rosamund his wife, and John his son and heir apparent joined in the sale of Houghton to James Bankes of Winstanley.[3].

1605-1622: the manors and lands in the Southworth district were mortgaged and sold early in the 17th century settlement was made in 1605, Thomas Southworth and John his son and heir being deforciants in a fine. A year later John Harrington appears to have been mortgagee, John Southworth being in possession. In 1612 Thomas Ireland was one of the plaintiffs. Ten years later the transfer was complete Sir Thomas Ireland of Bewsey ended up purchasing Southworth and Croft in Sept. 1621.

  1. Sir John Southworth was born 1575 in Samlesbury England. He died in 1615 in Samlesbury, England. Sir John married Jane Sherbourne, their son Thomas is apparently the one who sold Sir Thomas Ireland of Bewsey the manors, messuages, lands, tenements, rents, and services in Southworth, Croft, Middleton, Arbury, Houghton, Winwick, Hulme, Orford, Warrington, Fearnhead, Poulton, and Woolston. The price paid was 500 pounds, Sir Thomas also undertaking to pa/y William Southworth his annuity of 13 pounds.
  2. Bridget Southworth was born in 1581 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England;
  3. Richard Southworth was born in 1579 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, was christened about 1590 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, died after 1595 in England, and was buried after 1595 in England;
  4. Thomas Southworth was born in 1577 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England;
  5. Nicholas Southworth was born in 1584 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, and died After Aft 1595;
  6. Michael Southworth was born in 1586 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, was christened in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, and died after 1595 in England;

1. Rosamund Lister, or Lyster, living 1587, betrothed to Gresham Clapham, who, however, broke his engagement. She then m. Thomas Southworth, Esq., son and heir of Sir John Southworth^ of Salmesbury, Lanes, (by Mary, dau. Sir Richard Assheton), by whom, who d. circa 161 7, she had issue (besides Anne, Edmund, Christopher, Michael, Richard, William of Holcroft, near Warrington, and Thomas, all of whom were living 1598) a son and three daus. : —

I. John Southworth of Salmesbury, d. circa 1613-14, having m. Jane, natural dau. Sir Richard Sherborne of Sherborne.^ She had Lower Hall, Salmesbury, for her jointure house, and was tried as a witch at Lancaster, 16 12 (see Victorian County History of Lanes.). She was living 1623.
1. Ellen Southworth, m. William Dewhurst of Dewhurst.
2. Margery Southworth, living 1595, m. Thomas, younger son of
John Osbaldeston, Esq., and nephew of Chief-Justice Osbaldeston, whose daughter Deborah married Walter Lister of Milton, Co. Roscommon (see p. 21).
3. Bridget Southworth, m., after March 1600, . . . Duddell of Salwich

Bridget's will, dated 1 Mar 1600/01, asks to be buried in Gisburne parish church next to her husband. She mentions her son Michael Lyster, son Martin Lyster, son-in-law, Thomas Southworth, Esq., son-in-law John Lacye, Esq. and his wife "Ellinge," her son Matthew Lyster, daughter, Rosamond Southword, niece, granddaughter Bridgett Southworth, step-daughter in law Elizabeth Tempest, and Edmund Lister, her "son departed"
