About SSG. Simmons Parker, Comanche Code Talker, WW II
Elaine Parker
My dad is the 2nd one from the left on the bottom row, Sgt. Simmons Parker. Very proud of all of them. They trained for a year at Fort Benning in the U.S. Army Fourth Signal Corp. My dad told me that they devised a code within a code, translating military terms and words into Comanche. There was no Comanche words for bomber planes, machine gun, tanks for example, so they had to come up with Comanche words for them. Tanks were called wah kaw day, which means turtle in Comanche. Bomber planes became pregnant bird in Comanche.
Code Talker, retired from the US Army in 1965 as a Staff Sergeant.
DOB February 6,1916 in Cache OK.
He was the grandson of the last Comanche Chief Quanah Parker, member of the Pentecostal Church of God and CIVA, DOD October 9, 1983, buried at Saddle Mountain Cemetery south of Carnegie, OK,
